Smallville has had a breath of fresh air hit it this year, with a new writing team and set of producers. The year’s buildup has been leading to one moment: Smallville Clark Kent (young Superman) vs. Doomsdsay.

Fans have waited all season for this inevitable fight, as it will pit a young, untrained Man of Steel versus perhaps one of his most powerful comics enemies of all time.

The Death of Superman is a comic that showed Superman’s true valor and willingness to sacrifice himself for humanity. In that book, with his Justice League friends defeated, it was up to Superman to challenge a creature of imaginable strength and desire to kill every creature on Earth; man, woman and child included.

The Beast had no logic but to use it’s incredible strength and surprising quickness to rob the life from everyone; Superman knew what he had to do.

In the course of the fight, Superman’s legendary invulnerability had met its match as each blow from the creature’s spikey body gored Superman and drew blood. Undeterred, Superman continued to battle this creature as no one else on Earth could do it.

With his dieing breath, Superman managed to defeat and kill Doomsday in one of the most epic fights and shows of protecting all life that has been written. Unfortunately, the might of Doomsday also killed Superman (almost, anyway ).

Smallville is recreating the legendary fight, but with one major exception: Clark Kent is not yet Superman nor has fully developed his powers. But is his sense of sacrifice and valor still intact; will he sacrifice himself and what he believes in for protecting his fallen Justice League comrades and all life on Earth. Will he make the ultimate sacrifice?

The Smallville directors have released a clip so we can have a look into the matter. This is an unfinished version, without special effects, but it already conveys some powerful messages. Enjoy!
