Example: if class participation is 40% of the grade or more, I do not pick that professor no matter how high the rating. That is because I take the risk the professor conducts class via the Socratic method.

I can do deep thinking: just not at the fast pace required in a class discussion with 35 other students, with faster thinking ability, trying to get the same participation points. So if the Socratic method is used, I would lose 40% of my grade and in the end, I get nothing but a 3 credit C.

I have an above average ability to draw conclusions from anything I read. My ability to locate relevant information for term papers is the same. Therefore, I pick professors where term papers factor into the grade, and where the textbook is a must. I’ve picked professors with a 3.0-3.4 rating over those with 4.5-5.0 ratings.

I cannot take notes with a pen and paper. If the success on exams depends on note taking ability, I do not pick that professor either because I run the risk that the profesor won’t allow students to take laptops into the classroom (I can type 50-70 wpm for note taking), due to past instances of students bidding on ebay during classtime. Further, I don’t like paying $130 for a textbook we won’t even use.
